Government recommends to prorogue House session from Saturday midnight
Lower house shouldn’t continue after the nominations under the proportional representation system: Election Commission.Post Report
The government has recommended to the President to prorogue the meeting of the House of Representatives from Saturday midnight.
The ongoing 11th session, which is the last session of the lower house elected in 2017, will come to an end after its last meeting on Saturday. The president will prorogue the session. “The Cabinet has recommended ending the ongoing session from Saturday midnight,” Minister Communication and Information Technology Gyanendra Bahadur Karki, told the Post.
Speaker Agni Sapkota has called the meeting at 1 pm on Saturday. Though the government had attempted to continue the lower house until the first meeting of the House elected from the November 20 polls after a revision in the existing election laws, it rolled back its decision following controversies.
The Election Commission had said the lower house shouldn’t continue after the nominations under the proportional representation system. The parties will be submitting the closed lists of the candidates on Sunday and Monday.
