Oli meets Deuba, almost after six months
Citizenship bill, other contemporary issues are among the agenda.Post Report
Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and Chairman of the CPN-UML KP Sharma Oli are holding a meeting in Baluwatar.
This is the first meeting between the prime minister and the leader of the main opposition almost after six months.
Govinda Pariyar, press chief of Prime Minister Deuba, confirmed the meeting.
Contemporary issues like the bill to amend the Citizenship Act, which has become a highly debated issue, and upcoming federal and provincial elections among others are the agenda.
The last time Deuba and Oli had met was in February, ahead of parliamentary ratification of Millennium Challenge Corporation Nepal Compact.
The Deuba-led administration in July had withdrawn an earlier bill to amend the Citizenship Act and presented a new one which was swiftly endorsed by both the houses.
The President, however, had returned the bill without authenticating it and asked the houses to review some provisions. Nonetheless, the lower houses passed the bill as it was and sent it to the upper house. Once the bill is passed by the upper house, it will be sent to the President again for authentication.
The UML also has some reservations about the bill.
