Dimpal Kumari Jha, a former state minister in the Madhes provincial government, died on Sunday. She was 42.

“Dimpal Jha passed away at around 4:30 this morning in Kathmandu,” said Ranjit Kumar Jha, an aide to Anil Kumar Jha, the husband of the deceased.

According to family sources, Dimpal had been undergoing treatment for colon cancer for the last two years.

A politician and rights activist, Dimpal was a member of the Madhes Provincial Assembly elected under the proportional representation system. Born on July 12, 1979, she was also an ayurvedic doctor.

She also served as a member of the second Constituent Assembly from November 2013 to October 2017.

She was associated with the Loktantrik Samajbadi Party. She served as state minister for physical infrastructure development from July 2018 to June 2021 in the Madhes government.

“Her last rites will be performed in her hometown Rautahat,” Ranjit.
