The Embassy of Nepal has urged all Nepali citizens in India to adhere to and respect the advisories issued by the governments of Nepal and India so as to protect themselves from the Covid-19 pandemic.
Issuing a statement on Monday, the Embassy of Nepal in New Delhi appealed to all Nepali nationals working and living in India to remain safe while abiding by the advisories of the Nepal government, the Nepali embassy, Indian government and other state governments of India.
"In view of lockdown in several Indian states, ban on movement of vehicles, including trains, and people, and closing of all Nepal-India border points, the embassy urges all Nepalis in India to stay put in areas where they are currently residing safely and not step out of homes unless it is extremely necessary," reads the statement.
The statement follows Indian government’s decision to suspend all passenger trains, bus services, metro and inter-state bus services until March 31, putting all 75 districts where coronavirus cases have been reported under lockdown.
So far, India has reported 360 confirmed cases of the disease along with seven deaths.
To deal with the ongoing Covid-19 outbreak, the Nepal government on Sunday decided to close down its borders with India and China for a week, effective from 10am Monday.
As India continues to report a steady rise in the number of Covid-19 cases, Nepalis living and working in various Indian cities have started to return home, stoking concerns if they were properly screened before entering Nepal.
