Various central Tarai districts of Province 2 witnessed heavy rains coupled with gale and hailstones on Saturday.

A 45-year-old man, identified as Panilal Sahani, died after being hit by a flying metal roof at Ramnangar Municipality in Sarlahi district.

In Janakpur, the provincial capital, rainfall waterlogged many parts of the city due to poor drainage system.

The inclement weather conditions also delayed the ongoing Secondary Education Examination.

Deputy Inspector General of Police Hari Bahadur Pal at Provincial Police Office said gale and rain affected daily life in several parts of Dhanusha, Mahottari and Sarlahi districts.

Only last week, a powerful windstorm had struck the districts of Bara and Parsa, killing at least 28 people and rendering thousands of people homeless.

With dark storm clouds hovering above and wind gusting at a high speed on Saturday, people were afraid of another deadly storm hitting the region.    

In Mahottari, flashflood triggered by heavy rains in Madaha stream has put various settlements at risk. The water in the stream that originates from Chure Hills rose to dangerous level in the morning before subsiding towards the afternoon.The victims of last week’s windstorm in Bara and Parsa districts were greatly affected by rainfall and hailstones. The families living in makeshift shelters and tents had little protection against the elements. Relief and humanitarian works in the disaster-hit areas were also affected.
