Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has issued warnings to intellectuals that they will be left speechless if he started speaking in retaliation against their jibe.
In his live conversation with the people broadcast from state-owned Nepal Television on Wednesday, Oli said the remarks made by intellectuals were uncivilized, disrespectful, and derogative.
“I see some of the intellectuals making disgraceful comments. If I had responded to their remarks, they would have been rendered bedridden. But I don’t want to do that,” said Oli.
Oli, who has recently been accused of being intolerant about the remarks made against his administration, questioned the intellectuals whether they wanted to debate with him about the truth. “They [intellectuals] should be mindful of their plight if some of the truths get spilled when they express themselves in an undignified manner,” he said.
He further said that there is a growing tendency among the people to speak as they please while taking allowance, pension, and state facility. He said he has seen an utterly wrong and irresponsible publicity of the government. He said he won’t respond to the derogatory remarks but continue to ask questions instead.
Prime Minister Oli has come under criticisms from several quarters after he received a prize of US $100,000 from Universal Peace Federation. The Oli administration has also been criticised for supporting the Asia Pacific Summit 201-Nepal that was organized by controversial South Korea-based Universal Peace Federation.
