The sixth meeting of Nepal-India Oversight Mechanism was held in Kathmandu on Wednesday to review the progress made in the implementation of bilateral economic and development projects.  

During the meeting, both sides discussed the bottlenecks in executing the India-funded projects in Nepal and took decisions on how to address them in a timely manner.  

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the status of implementation of all ongoing bilateral projects between Nepal and India were discussed.

While expressing commitment to extend all necessary facilitation to ensure smooth execution of the projects within the specified time frame, the two sides agreed to address the problems faced by the implementing agencies at the earliest, read the statement issued by the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu.

According to the embassy, the meeting emphasised on the early completion of all bilateral economic and development cooperation projects by addressing difficulties faced by various projects in the process of their implementation, including projects such as Cross-border rail projects, Integrated Check Posts, Terai Roads Project, Cross-border transmission lines, and Arun-III hydropower project, among others. The two sides discussed measures to be undertaken by the respective governments and agencies to expedite project implementation and their early completion within specified time frame.

The meeting was co-chaired by Foreign Secretary Shanker Das Bairagi and Ambassador of India to Nepal  Manjeev Singh Puri. As agreed during the state visit to India by former prime minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal in September 2016, the Nepal-India Oversight Mechanism was set up to take measures to implement ongoing bilateral projects within defined timeline.

The seventh meeting of the mechanism will take place on a mutually convenient date, the embassy said.
