The staff of Jajarkot District Hospital have started a strike saying they have not received their salaries for the past six months.
All services, except for emergency, were brought to a halt on Wednesday. Many patients were affected as a result of the protest.
The protesters said they were compelled to go on a strike as the authority concerned paid no heed to their concern.
Dr Rajendra Lama, acting medical superintendent of the hospital, said they will shut down all services if Bheri Municipality Office did not pay them at the earliest.. Dambar Bahadur Bista, the account officer of Bheri Municipality Office, blamed the Finance Ministry for not allocating the funds to pay the health workers.
Janaki Medical College students stage protest
The students at Janaki Medical College on Wednesday staged a demonstration outside the building of Province 2 Assembly, demanding the provincial government to take steps to resume the classes.
The medical college is shut for the past two months due to employees’ strike over unpaid salaries. The college authority has not paid its staff for the past 14 months.
Province 2 Internal Affairs and Law Minister Gyanendra Yadav has vowed to take measures to resume the college.
