Left alliance prepares to filed Mahara for Speaker’s post
The left alliance of CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Centre) is preparing to field Krishna Bahadur Mahara for the post of House Speaker. If the two parties stick with their decision till the nomination filing time on Friday, there is a high possibility that Mahara will be the Speaker of the House.
The two parties, however, have not made any official announcement about who will be the candidate for the Speaker till this evening.
Filing of nominations for the election to the post of Speaker has been scheduled for Friday while the election has been slated for Saturday.
Meanwhile, former Speaker Subash Nembang has claimed for the post of Speaker from CPN-UML.
Senior leaders of the UML have claimed that Nembang’s role will be strong to make the federal parliament effective as he has already led the Constituent Assembly as the Chairman for two times and also has the experience of interim Parliament Speaker.
However, the Maoist Centre had earlier claimed the post of Speaker while allocating key posts during the process of party unification of the two parties. That is why; the Maoist Centre had supported Bidya Devi Bhandari for the post of President leaving their stance for the post as per the same agreement.
The Maoist Centre had claimed for the posts of Vice-President and Speaker after the UML demanded the posts of President and Prime Minister.
“The final decision has not been made yet regarding the matter. The two Chairmen will decide the candidate till the nomination filing day,” UML Deputy General Secretary Bishnu Paudel said.
Apart from Mahara, Giriraj Mani Pokharel, Dev Gurung and former Speaker Onsari Gharti Magar among others from the Maoist Centre have also expressed their willingness to become the Speaker.
