The Election Commission (EC) on Thursday started distributing voter identity cards from the polling centres for the first phase of local level elections slated to be held on Sunday in Province 3, 4 and 6.The Election Commission (EC) on Thursday started distributing voter identity cards from the polling centres for the first phase of local level elections slated to be held on Sunday in Province 3, 4 and 6.
The EC will distribute the voter ID cards will for three days until Saturday. In the process, voters will also be shown how to cast vote. According to the EC, voters can receive their voter IDs from the election officials deployed at their nearby polling centres. The voter himself or herself or a family member of them should come to receive the IDs.
Election officials deployed in 6342 polling centres of 34 districts in the three provinces will distribute the voting ID cards, Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhi Prasad Yadav informed.
A total of 49, 76,925 voters have been registered with the EC in the three provinces and the election officers have started making arrangement for installing election booths in coordination with local political parties, said Yadav. The EC has made it mandatory to have the voter ID cards for casting ballot after it was introduced in 2013 during the second Constituent Assembly election.
