Nepal ranks 131 in corruption perception index
Nepal dropped one spot down to 131st position in the Corruption Perceptions Index 2016 survey published by Transparency International (TI).Nepal dropped one spot down to 131 in the Corruption Perceptions Index 2016 survey published by Transparency International (TI).
Although, Nepal gained two points in this year’s index from 27 in 2015, Nepal’s ranking in global corruption index slipped one spot down from 130.
TI Nepal chapter Chairman Shree Hari Aryal, after the report was published, attributed the slip in Nepal’s position to ineffective mechanisms put in place to curb corruption. “The corrupt leapt like a rabbit while the agencies responsible for curbing corruption slow-paced like a tortoise,” said Aryal during a press meeting.
Meanwhile, Denmark and New Zealand shared the top spot with 90 points out of a possible 100. They were followed by Finland, Sweden, Switzerland, Norway, Singapore, Netherlands, Canada and Germany who made it to the top ten in this year’s CPI.
On the other end, South Sudan (11), North Korea (12) and Syria (13) did a tad better than Somalia which scored just 10 points to end up at the bottom of the table.
