Around 900 people who were affected by last year’s earthquake are yet to receive housing reconstruction aid as they lack some official papers.
Most of these people do not have land ownership certificate and were living in the land belonging to religious trusts and are landless squatters. In some cases, they own land that is not registered, according to the District Development Committee (DDC) Kavrepalanchok.
Dholakhnath Dhakal, planning officer at the DDC, said no specific direction has been given to it regarding distributing housing reconstruction aid to those who do not have land ownership certificate. Most of those who have been deprived of the housing aid are from Phalantey and Bhumlutaar areas of Kavrepalanchok district. Squatters from Koshidekha and Simthali among other VDCs of the district too have not received the aid, as they were living in land belong to a religious trust.
The local reconstruction committee in the district has made public names of 58,608 households identifying them as the beneficiaries of the aid. The committee, however, has recommended the district treasury office to release the grant to only 55,865 households.
