Nepal Police on Wednesday honoured veteran musician and composer of national anthem Amber Gurung at his residence in Budhanilkantha, Kathmandu.
Inspector General of Police Upendra Kanta Aryal, on behalf of Nepal Police, handed out a check for Rs 500,000 to Gurung. He wished Gurung a speedy recovery and assured his family to provide necessary support for him.
Gurung, 78, had on March 30 returned to Nepal after months-long treatment in Indian Capital, New Delhi. He composed Nepal’s new national anthem “Sayaun Thunga Phoolka Hami”.
A meeting of Nepal Police on May 18 had decided to honour Gurung.
