Tension erupted at Nepalgunj-Rupaidiha border on Wednesday after the cadres of Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha (SLMM) hurled petrol bomb and stones at security personnel from Indian soil. A few protesters and police personnel were injured in the clash.
The protesters rained stones at the police personnel when the latter rushed to help a bike rider coming from India. The rider fell down after the protesters attacked him.
The security personnel also chased away the protesters by hurling stones. The protesters dispersed after members of Indian border security force Seema Surakshya Bal (SSB) were deployed at no-man’s land following the deterioration of situation.
The situation became tense shortly after a meeting between the officials of two countries regarding border security.
