Tarai FM contents to face scrutiny
The Ministry of Information and Communication is preparing to form an independent commission to study the contents of FM stations operating in the Tarai.
The Ministry of Information and Communication is preparing to form an independent commission to study the contents of FM stations operating in the Tarai.
The ministry is taking such a decision after receiving complaints that FM stations in the country’s southern belt are broadcasting contents that would cause communal violence.
An commission would be formed under the leadership of Press Council Nepal, said the media regulatory body.
The council, the Federation of Nepalese Journalists and other bodies have been complaining that contents of FM stations are against journalistic code of conduct and National Broadcasting Act 2049.
“We do not have any intention of curtailing press freedom but media should be responsible towards the nation and society,” said Minister for Information and Communications Sher Dhan Rai, who held a meeting with chiefs of key stakeholders of the media sector on Tuesday to solicit their suggestions.
Similarly, the ministry is also preparing to broadcast new constitution after translating it into various languages.
