Siraha
Chandandevi Sah of Belha VDC-2 in the district has reportedly been displaced along with her husband Sarjug from the village after local residents accused her of practising witchcraft.

Sarjug said local people accused his wife of murdering Raju Mukhiya, son of local Tapeshwor, by practicing witchcraft. Raju died after being bitten by a snake while he was playing cricket on Friday, Sarjug said, adding that the villagers, however, accused Chandandevi of sending the snake that bit Raju.

Raju died while undergoing treatment.

Sarjug said locals also beat up his daughter-in-law Renudevi and vandalised his house on the same charge. Renudevi said she, her two sisters-in-law and their children are still living in the house though Sarjug and his wife left the village. She said they are terrified due to the incident and that they leave the house during day fearing attack by local people.

Sarjug and his wife are taking shelter at their relative’s house in the district headquarters at present.

Assistant Sub-inspector Laxman Giri said they rescued Sarjug and Chandandevi and took them to the district headquarters for safety. He said they will take action against the guilty after the victims register a complaint.
