The District Court Rautahat has ordered two individuals, including a Police Senior Head Constable, to be sent to judicial custody in connection with the murder of Shankar Sah Baniya.
A single bench of District Judge Shambhu Prasad Regmi on Sunday evening issued the remand order against Police Senior Head Constable Hardev Raya Yadav of ward 2 of Fatuwa Bijaypur Municipality and Kapildev Yadav.
The two were arrested two weeks ago for allegedly killing Sah during a land-related dispute. According to Sah’s family, the duo allegedly assaulted him to death during the altercation.
As the court began the hearing on whether to keep the accused in custody, the victim’s relatives staged a sit-in outside the court gate, demanding justice.
The court issued the custody order later in the evening, stating that under the Criminal Procedure Code, they could not be declared innocent at this stage, said court’s registrar Kesharnath Aryal. Sah had died on October 12 following the assault.
