The twenty five Nepali housemaids among the 250 currently living in a shelter of the Nepali Embassy in Kuwait have abandoned the place blaming the embassy of being indifferent towards their repatriation process.
The housemaids have been taking refuge at the shelter after fleeing their employers’ houses for various reasons. “The women left the shelter on Friday complaining of the delay in their repatriation,” said acting ambassador of Nepal to Kuwait Bishal Bhattarai, adding that some of them had been living there for the past nine months.
According to Bhattarai, the embassy had the finger prints of 102 housemaids out of the 205 during the process to repatriate them. He added that the process will move ahead once they collect the finger prints of the rest. Bhattarai, however, claimed that the Kuwati police have arrested some of the housemaids who fled the embassy, while some have been left stranded and others have returned to their agents.
The acting ambassador mentioned of the difficulties in repatriating the Nepali housemaids from Kuwait. “It is hard to send them back, specially the ones who flee their employer’s houses. The sponsor can file a case against them anytime,” he said.
