yet to get them though the new academic session has already started.
JSSK is authorised to publish and supply textbooks to schools across the country. “We have not distributed even a single copy of textbook this academic session. We went to the JSSK office as textbooks are yet to be supplied,” said Narayan Kumar Shrestha, treasurer of the Federation of Nepal Books and Stationery Entrepreneurs (FNBSE). The FNBSE distributes textbooks.
Shrestha said the JSSK has not supplied a single set of textbooks to the district so far. “We urged the JSSK officials to help create conducive environment for us to sell textbooks,” he said.
He said though 82 types of textbooks are required for students of grade one to 10, the JSSK told them that it could provide only 48 types this year. Suppliers said they urged the Department of Education through the District Education Office more than a week ago to supply textbooks on time, but to no avail.
“We met JSSK general manager and he assured us that textbooks will be supplied by May 3,” District Education Officer Dipendra Subedi said. He said they will be forced to teach students on the basis of syllabus until textbooks are distributed. The district needs around 90,000 copies of textbooks.
