The District Court in Kaski on Wednesday slapped Miya with seven years imprisonment on the rape conviction. The single bench of Judge Ram Prasad Oli gave the verdict of seven-year imprisonment and ordered the convict to provide Rs 200,000 as compensation to the victim.

Police filed a case charging Miya for the repeated sexual assault to the victim, who had been working as the domestic help at his residence in Pokhara Sub-metropolis-9.

The victim recorded her statement at the court saying that Miya repeatedly raped her for seven months soon after she started working at his home in 2012.

She said the perpetrator assured to marry her and buy valuable jewellery, and committed the crime. She also charged her of sodomy and oral sex.

The victim could not disclose the incident immediately due to fear of losing the job. She ultimately shared the ordeal to her mother and later lodged a case at police on November 4, 20012 demanding action against the guilty. Miya, who absconded after the case was registered, surrendered to the court on June 10, 2013.

Miya, originally hailing from Syanjga district, was elected to the previous Constituent Assembly under proportional representation system.
