The Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) has set up a Green Growth Advisory Service to promote the green economy.
Through this service, the apex body of the private sector will actively advocate environmentally sustainable practices while promoting economic growth, the FNCCI said in a statement.
“Awareness campaigns will be organised at the central, state, and local levels, focusing on employment skill development, green employment, and just transition, with a special emphasis on industrial corridors, industrial areas, and villages.”
The advisory will also take the initiative in assisting the development of strategies and action plans to promote the green economy.
Prakash Pantha, chairperson of the Sustainable Development and Good Governance Committee at the National Assembly; FNCCI President Chandra Prasad Dhakal and International Labour Organisation (ILO) Country Director Numan Özcan jointly launched the advisory service at the FNCCI Secretariat on Thursday.
The service was launched with the technical assistance of the ILO.
Pantha commended the FNCCI's effort to move the Nepali industry towards embracing green growth. Starting such activities is welcome, he said.
Dhakal said that adopting green growth practices in Nepali businesses and industries would not only benefit the environment and society but also create opportunities for economic growth, market competition, and long-term sustainability.
ILO Country Director Numan expressed his happiness in cooperating with the FNCCI.
He stated that the United Nations including ILO has prioritised green initiatives to achieve sustainable development goals.
