Laptops have become an integral part of our lives. Gone are those days, when you needed to use your bulky desktop to do any work. With the latest innovations and latest processors, laptops can do all those tasks which were only possible on desktop in a form factor that would have been impossible a few decades ago. The first laptop made its arrival in 1985 and it was built by Toshiba.
Back then, it weighed 4.1kg and cost an eye-watering $1,899 (the equivalent of $4,229 today). Technology has improved by leaps and bounds since then, resulting in serious performance gains and price reductions. Today’s “budget” laptops will easily run rings around the first Toshiba laptop.
Global brands such as Asus, MSI, Dell, Lenovo and HP are offering a wide range of budget laptops costing less than Rs50,000 in Nepal. This allows budget conscious customers to pick up a laptop that performs admirably and is able to complete the most tasks except for gaming.
Budget laptops are mostly used for browsing the internet, making documents, powerpoint presentations and also for playing light games like Counter Strike. This makes it suitable for students looking to buy their first laptop without breaking the bank.
There are certain trade-offs when buying a budget laptop. It will not have the highest performing components such as a solid state drive, Intel’s i7 processor nor the fastest graphics card. Budget laptops will not set benchmarks on fire but it will get the job done, just a little bit slower than high-end laptops.
Here is a list of budget laptops available in Nepal.
