Blockade reports are ‘baseless’
The Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) has said reports about a trade blockade imposed by the Indian government on Nepal were baselessThe Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) has said reports about a trade blockade imposed by the Indian government on Nepal were baseless and urged all not to disseminate such information.
In a statement, FNCCI said the news that went viral on the social media and covered by a few media outlets were baseless.
The apex body of the private sector said it had expected that the promulgation of the constitution would end the protests in different part of the country and that the problems would be resolved through talks.
However, the latest political situation has worried the FNCCI. It said trade activates have been affected due to prolonged strikes, and urged the government to immediately bring the situation to normal by holding talks with the agitating parties.
In a separate statement, the Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI), also expressed concern about the prolonged strikes that have affected trade and business activities.
The CNI said the private sector had expected the new constitution would lead the country towards lasting peace and the economy and industrial sector would be accorded top priority.
“However, the current situation suggests the country is headed towards further complexity,” it said.
