How has Gionee’s performance been in Nepal?
Since its launch in September 2014, Gionee has got an overwhelming response in Nepal. We are selling our products from more than 600 retail stores and we have plans to expand the number to 1,000 this year. We will be the top three mobile phone brands in Nepal this year.
What are the key attributes for the success?
Innovative products, strong sales and dealership network and lots of promotional activities are behind Gionee’s success. We spend much money in R&D and focus that our product should be different from other brands. With the M series, we are focusing on power consumption. We launched the M3 with 5,000mAh battery this year and we are going to launch the M5 soon which will have 6,000mAh battery. With the S series phones, we are focusing on design, speed and sleekness. Recently launched Elife S7 also got immense popularity in overall performance.
Which market segment are you targeting?
We have phones for every type of customers. Our smartphones are available in the range of Rs7,000 to Rs45,000. We will soon be launching the Elife E8 which will be our high-end phone.
How is the overall mobile market in Nepal?
The mobile phone markets in South Asian and African countries are growing rapidly. The demand in Nepal too is growing two-three folds, so we see a great potential here.
What is your strategy for the growth in Nepal? How much are you spending in branding and marketing?
We will continuously be expanding sales and dealership network along with various CSR and promotional activities. We will launch new and innovative products too. We are targeting revenue between Rs800 million and Rs1billion this year, from which we will spend 10-15 percent for marketing and branding.
What are new product line-ups for Nepal?
We are planning to roll out the Gionee Marathon M5 and the Elife E8 by August. Both these sets boast some never before seen features. The Elife E8 has a 24MP rear camera with proprietary software that can produce images of 120MP quality. The M5, the successor of the Marathon M3, is one-of-a-kind smartphone since it comes with two 3,010mAh battery. The battery will last up to four days on a single charge. Other new phones are also on our list.
