Ministries asked to develop disabled-friendly infrastructure
The Prime Minister’s Office has directed all the ministries and government bodies to prepare programmes for emergency as well as long-term basis for people with disabilities while formulating policies and allocating the budget for the upcoming year.The Prime Minister’s Office has directed all the ministries and government bodies to prepare programmes for emergency as well as long-term basis for people with disabilities while formulating policies and allocating the budget for the upcoming year.
The Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport (MoPIT), Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development (MoFALD) and Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD) have been instructed to make the public structures like buildings, hospitals, public toilets, cinema halls, public halls, malls, bus terminals and playgrounds disabled friendly.
MoFALD along with the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare (MoWCSW) has been asked to take necessary steps for the timely execution of the quota system in providing social security allowance to the people with disabilities.
The PMO has also instructed the MoPIT and the MoFALD to incorporate provisions of disabled-friendly roads while drawing and designing public roads. MoFALD is also asked to monitor the implementation of seat reservations in public vehicles for people with disabilities.
The ministries and government bodies are asked to submit data based progress report on the implementation of the decisions passed by the meeting of advisory committee and central director committee that was formed on the basis of the mechanism of 2011 that aimed to end discrimination against people with disabilities.
The MoWCSW has been asked to carry out a research and initiate the construction of a community centre in each province for the re-establishment of people with disabilities.
