CIAA drags VDC, LRO officials to court

VDC Secretaries Rameshore Prasad Sah and Manoj Kumar Sah of Alau VDC have been charged with embezzling social security allowance, children protection allowance, among others, during the period between 2009 and 2013.
Rameshore and Manoj Kumar have been accused of embezzling Rs3 million and Rs78,000 respectively, the CIAA said in a press release. In the chargesheet against Rameshore, the anti-graft body has sought a jail term of upto six years, recovery of embezzled amount and a fine up to Rs5 million under the Prevention of Corruption Act 2002. It has sought a jail term of upto six months, recovery of embezzled amount and a fine up to Rs100,000 against the other VDC secretary.
The CIAA also filed a case against Land Revenue Officer Gyan Raj Lamsal, working at the District Land Revenue Office in Siraha, on charge of accepting Rs40,000 in bribe. He was caught by a team from the anti-graft body. On top of confiscation of the bribe amount, the CIAA has sought a fine up to Rs50,000 and an imprisonment of upto four months in the chargesheet against Lamsal.
