Dead bird on TIA runway forces airport closure for 90 minutes
Tribhuvan International Airport was shut down for one-and-half-hour after dead bird was found on the runway on Wednesday morning.
Tribhuvan International Airport was shut down for one-and-half-hour after dead bird was found on the runway on Wednesday morning.
The airport was shut for cleaning purposes after a dead bird was found along with pieces of glass on the runway, TIA Spokesperson Prem Nath Thakur said. The airport was shut immediately after the air traffic found the dead bird along with pieces of glasses at 8:23 am today.
Thakur informed that the aircraft the bird collided with is yet to be identified. "We asked three international flights and other domestic flights about the bird and glasses. They said it was not their plane," said Thakur.
Pilots were enraged after the airport management took one-and-half-hour to remove the carcass of the bird. Airport sources said the driver of the cleaning vehicle was nowhere to be seen, which caused the delay in removal.
The domestic and international flights were diverted after the incident.
