A Levels specialWe believe that providing students with a homely, friendly and quiet ambience ideal for small learner groups together with a well equipped learner resource centre is conducive to stress-free independent study.
At Rupy’s, we believe in giving our learners an edge. Various psychological tests enable students to gain an insight into the inherent strengths and weaknesses of their personality.
The programme includes improving their skills in communication, making effective use of English, making effective presentations, leadership, time management, group discussions, interviews and inter-personal skills.
“We specialise in providing an academically challenging and rigorous course to foster international mindedness, compassion and respect. IBDP graduates have become the top choice and thus have a greater acceptance rate in undergraduate courses in colleges and universities across the world,” said Medin Lamichhane, principal of IB School. “The IBDP curriculum contains six subject groups and students have to study six subjects from each group. Three of these subjects are studied at the Higher Level and three at the Standard Level. The three higher level courses are usually those supporting a student’s passion or career aspirations while the other three help to create a balanced and interesting programme that aids in the overall learning process.”
The Diploma Programme contains three core elements, in addition to the six subjects, that every student must take. The Theory of Knowledge course encourages students to appreciate the inter-connectedness of subjects and to critically question and think about the nature of knowledge and learning. The Extended Essay is an independently researched, 4,000-word academic paper that provides the student additional academic specialisation and teaches skills of researching, referencing and university-level writing. CAS (Creativity, Action and Service) involves students in a variety of activities such as music, drawing, basketball, swimming, social service and volunteering. While CAS is not formally assessed, it is considered to be an integral part of the programme as it allows students to enrich personal and interpersonal development. At Ullens, students have to participate in Project Week as part of CAS. It is a weeklong service project under which students go to live in a village and help rebuild or renovate school buildings or community centres and learn about rural communities in Nepal.
As the Diploma Programme relies heavily on discussions, debates, presentations and team work in addition to written assignments, students develop many much needed skills required to engage in not just college and university but in life. Ullens School also offers social and emotional counselling as well as academic counselling, tailored to students’ individual needs. Since its inception Ullens IBDP has over 170 graduates that are currently in 18 different countries with full and partial scholarships.
