Scholars stress on studying Great Poet Devkota's awareness on aestheticism

Speaking at a programme marking the 107th birth anniversary of the great literary figure of the country here in the Capital on Wednesday, they described Devkota as the conceiver of the country's national intellectual thinking. The programme was organised by the Ratna Library.
The speakers also pointed out to the dearth of study and research into Devkota and his literary creations.
Chancellor of Nepal Academy Ganga Prasad Uprety said though many critics have critiqued the Mahakabi's literary creations, they were not sufficient due to the very gravity of the Mahakabi's literary finesse and the high intellectualism.
Poet and former Finance Minister Shankar Prasad Koirala suggested the countrymen to read one of Devkota's numerous essays titled 'Ke Nepal Sano Chha? (Is Nepal Small?)' to be inspired at present situation when the border blockade has weakened the our psyche.
Dr Padma Prasad Devkota, the son of the Great Poet, suggested more studies on the aesthetic consciousness of the Mahakabi. He said the State should pay attention to preserving the intellectual property of the great poet as it was more important than his physical properties.
Lawmaker Man Mohan Bhattarai, chairman of the Library Sashi Bikram Rana, writer Padma Singh Karki, school principal Gita Kharel Shivakoti among other speakers laid emphasis on deeper studies on Mahakabi Devkota.
The Library also launched 'Puja', a collection of various literary creations of different writers and litterateurs including Devkota.
At the function, the Ratna Rajya School felicitated 90-year-old Mishri Maharjan who worked at the school for the last 46 years. A blood donation programme was also held coinciding with the anniversary.
Meanwhile, the Modern Kanya Multiple College Baneshwar organised a poetry reading on the occasion of the 107th birth anniversary of Great Poet Devkota today.
Poets and literary persons who attended the programme eulogised the Mahakabi Devkota and his great contribution to enriching Nepali literature. They described the bard as a self-respecting, honest and patriotic personality.
Senior writer Tulasi Diwasa opened the poetry reading by garlanding a portrait of the late poet Devkota.
A host of poets read out their poems on different topics on the occasion.
