Kukur Tihar, the second day of Tihar festival, is being celebrated by worshipping dogs on Tuesday.
The dog, a faithful friend of mankind and the one of the first domesticated animals, is considered to be a messenger of the god of death, Yamaraj. According to Hindu mythology, Yamaraj has two dogs—Shyam and Sadal—who guard the door to hell.
People offer tika, garlands and food to dog on this day. Animals such as cow, crow and ox are also worshipped during Tihar festival.
