A meeting of Home Ministry, Commerce and Supply Ministry, physical infrastructure and transport and Nepal Police decided to impose such system on alternate days to reduce the consumption of the petroleum products.
“Given Indian Oil Corporation not supplying the petroleum products, the decision has been taken to control movement of vehicles,” said Laxmi Dhakal, spokesperson of Home Ministry.
According to officials involved in the meeting, it is the first step towards control the consumption of the petroleum products and additional measures would also be taken in the days to come if the supply obstruction remains the same.
The system will be imposed on all vehicles except those used by security forces and emergency services.
The government had also implemented the system during the Saarc summit held in Kathmandu.
