Amda-Mechi reopens after two years
The Dhulabari-based Amda-Mechi Community Hospital in Jhapa district, which was closed for the past two years due to financial problems, has finally been reopened.The Dhulabari-based Amda-Mechi Community Hospital in Jhapa district, which was closed for the past two years due to financial problems, has finally been reopened.
The health facility was built in 2008 at in Mechinagar Municipality-3 after Japan government provided financial assistance and local residents donated a piece of land to build the hospital building.
Bijaya Dalmiya, vice-chairman of the Hospital Management Committee, said they decided to run the health facility as Mechinagar Municipality, Amda Nepal and Mechinagar Chamber of Commerce and Industry agreed to provide Rs 200,000 on a monthly basis for the next six months.
“The hospital will also make some income within the period,” he said.
In the past as, the hospital was run with grant from the three donors. Dipendra Karki, an official at the municipality, said there are no any alternatives other than raising funds to resume the hospital services.
Dr Purusottam Majhi said the hospital will provide various services, including OPD, emergency, minor surgery, ambulance and special treatment for senior citizens. He said people from Mechinagar, Bahundangi, Shantinagar, Dhaijan, Jyamirgadhi and Duhagadhi in Jhapa as well as Jirmale and Kolbung in Illam will benefit from the hospital.
Earlier, patients from these areas were compelled to go to Birtamod as well as Siliguri in India for treatment.
