The former King took part in special rituals (Rudrabhishek Puja and Hawan) praying for the eternal peace of those killed in the Great Earthquake of April 25 and the subsequent aftershocks.
He spent about an hour taking part in the rituals amid chanting of Vedic Mantras at the temple known as Makhan Pashupatinath. He visited Basantapur Durbar Square after completing the Puja. Supporters of Gyanendra chanted slogans in his favour as he arrived at Basantpur.
The former king, who was deposed after the abolition of monarchy in the country in 2008, has been living in a forest retreat in Nagargun on the outskirts of Kathmandu.
