2 girls missing from embassy
The two Nepali girls rescued from a guest house and handed over to the Nepali Embassy in New Delhi on Friday reportedly disappeared on Sunday morning.
Permanent residents of Ichowk in Sindhupalchok, the girls from Tamang community aged between 15 to 16 were rescued by local social organisations at Manju Katila, India.
Office bearers of the Delhi-based Akhil Bharat Nepali Ekta Munch (ABNEM), Help Nepali Mission and Pravasi Nepali Janakalyan Samiti, acted on the leads provided by the brother of one of the girls, Som Bahadur Tamang, and raided the guest house.
According to Som Bahadur, locals Fulmaya Tamang and Kalu Lama trafficked the girls to New Delhi via Raxaul on March 15 and were preparing to sell them both to a brothel for Rs 400,000. Som Bahadur also reported the matter to police in Kathmandu.
“We handed over the girls along with Fulmaya to the embassy,” said Jiban Sharma of ABNEM. Its representative RB Khadka said the fact that the girls disappeared from the embassy is questionable. Khaganath Adhikari, charge d’affaires of the embassy, said he has been informed of disappearance of the girls and will inquire about the matter.
