Student unions divided over IoM dean appointment
Student Unions affiliated to major political parties have been divided on the debate that surfaced after the appointment of the Dean at the Institute of Medicine (IoM).Ekantipur Report
A final decision regarding the debate couldn't be made after the student unions failed to arrive at consensus on whether the appointment of dean was proper or not. They have decided to urge the concerned authority to immediately end the problem raised after the appointment of IoM dean.
The major Student Unions didn't take any side at a time when Prof. Dr. Govinda KC has been staging a hunger strike protesting the appointment of the new dean. Moreover, the main student unions Nepal Students Union (NSU), All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU) and ANNFSU- Revolutionary are not in accord on the issue of dean's appointment.
A meeting held at the office of CPN-UML aligned All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANFSU) in Bagbazar, Kathmandu on Thursday demanded that the semester system should be scrapped from Tribhuwan University (TU) saying that it was started without proper infrastructure. "We are not against the semester system," said the spokesperson of NSU, UP Lamichhane, "It will be even more problematic if semester system is started without proper infrastructure."
The major Student Unions, on Friday, will draw the attention of TU officials towards scrapping the semester system from the university.
The meeting also demanded the announcement of the date for the Free Student Union elections and also to draw the attention of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) to reduce the load shedding hours, Lamichhane said.
