Addressing the first complete central committee meeting of the UML aligned All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANFSU) here in Banepa, Kavre on Thursday, leader Gautam said the UML will join the government to live up to the spirit of cooperation and consensus of the interim constitution.
"Congress cannot promulgate a democratic constitution by working together with other political parties," said Gautam.
The Madhesi parties are bent on drafting secessionist constitution while the UCPN (Maoist) are trying to create conflict, which is why the NC has to work together with the CPN-UML to draft a democratic constitution, Gautam said. He also acknowledged the fact that the CPN-UML cannot draft the new constitution by keeping the NC out.
He accused the president and chairman of interim government of stirring controversy over who should call the Constituent Assembly (CA) meet. He said his party will accept it whether the CA meeting is summoned by the president or the Cabinet chairman. "Now the Supreme Court should take the final decision on January 13 and the CA meeting should be called on January 14," said Gautam.
