Scores of flights were affected for nearly an hour on Tuesday afternoon at Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport after a fuel tanker caught fire while refuelling.
No casualties have been reported.
According to eyewitnesses, the oil tanker of Nepal Oil Corporation was in process of refuelling an aircraft when the fire broke out.
People started to run after the incident occurred.
“There was a fuel leakage which caused the fire,” said Prem Nath Thakur, general manager of Tribhuvan International Airport. “It was brought under control immediately,” he said.
“We have launched an investigation to find the truth behind the incident.”
