Continuous heavy rainfall since Monday has flooded many small rivers and rivulets in Manang with floodwaters entering villages and causing damage.
Floods in Marshyangdi river triggered by continuous rainfall since last evening have displaced more than 56 families from Tal village in Nasho Rural Municipality.
The local people are taking refuge at Myardibhir awaiting rescue by the authorities.
Meenrashi Gurung, a local woman, said, “Half of the village including Bhanu Secondary School have been submerged in floodwaters from Marshyangdi river.”
“We have moved to Myardibhir and have been trying to contact authorities from here,” said Bed Bahadur Gurung, a local man.
Likewise, four houses in Chame Rural Municipality Ward No 1, a small hydropower project and a bailey bridge were swept away by the flooded Timang khola on Monday night.
According to DSP Subash Khadka, huge boulders have partially blocked Ghatte Khola in the rural municipality diverting the flow of the river into villages. “Some houses in Chame bazaar are at risk of being swept away since the flooded river has entered the settlements downstream,” said Khadka.
The district authorities say disruption of road networks and communication services has caused delays in relief and rescue efforts. “We have informed the nearest police posts about the situation in the villages. Hopefully, rescue operations will be underway soon.”
