Nepal lose to Jordan in WAFF Women’s Championship final
The three time champions Jordan defeat Nepal 5-3 in tiebreaker.Post Report
Nepal slumped to a 5-3 defeat in the penalty shootouts against the defending champions Jordon in the final of the WAFF Women’s Championship on Thursday.
In the final match at Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Sports City, Jeddah, all five Jordan players scored in the tiebreaker while Amrita Jaisi of Nepal failed to score. Rouzbahan Fraij netted the decisive goal for Jordon in the tiebreaker.
The match was pushed to the tiebreaker after a 2-2 tie.
Nepal initially took the lead but could not maintain it. Sabita Ranamagar scored in the 29th minute of the first half, with a beautiful volley from outside the D-box, to give Nepal a lead.
Lana Waleed Issa Feras for Jordan levelled the tally, netting a goal in the 74th minute. Jordan took a 2-1 lead over Nepal with a goal from Sarah Abu-Sabbah in the 89th minute.
Gita Rana of Nepal capitalised on a penalty awarded to Nepal in the second minute of the injury time to push the game to the tiebreaker.
Nepal defeated Lebanon 2-1 in the semi-finals while the three time champions Jordan defeated Palestine by 5-0 to reach the final.
