Pokhara Thunders registered their first victory with a 1-0 win over Biratnagar City FC while FC Chitwan and Butwal Lumbini FC shared the spoils with a 2-2 draw in the Nepal Super League football tournament at the Dasharath Stadium in Tripureshwor on Wednesday.
Nepali international striker Nawayug Shrestha scored deep into the second half to seal all the points for Pokhara. With the first victory, Pokhara have earned three points after the second match while Biratnagar also have three points with a win and a defeat.
In their first match, Pokhara had gone down 2-0 against Butwal Lumbini while Biratnagar had edged Dhangadi FC 3-0.
In the day's other match, Aashis Lama and Laxman Ruchal got on the scoresheet as Butwal Lumbini overcame a two-goal deficit to salvage the draw. A goal each from George Prince Karki and Tek Bahadur Budathoki had given Chitwan a 2-0 lead within the first 20 minutes of the match.
The outcome puts Butwal Lumbini on top of the standings with four points after completion of the second round matches. Chitwan, the second undefeated team along with Butwal Lumbini, are sixth with two points in the seven-team franchise league.
Pokhara's Rabi Paswan came closer to scoring in the 61st minute before his scorcher from the edge of the area rattled the bar. Forward Shrestha sealed the victory for Pokhara in the 83rd minute with a header from the area in Moussa Abba freekick.
Butwal Lumbini's Ruchal was named promising player of the match while Karki of Chitwan was named super player of the match. Ruchal was rewarded with Rs10,00 and Karki Rs25,000.
Earlier, Karki, the unsold forward who came as replacement of defender Bikash Khawas, put Chitwan ahead in the 15th minute with a one-touch strike in French striker Goran Jerkovi low cross from the left flank.
Tek Bahadur Budathoki doubled the advantage in the second attempt after his first strike was parried by goalie Bishal Shrestha.
Butwal Lumbini's Lama cut the deficit in the 32nd minute with a 30-yard strike as he controlled a pass from Armand Beadoum and fired at the post. Ruchal got the equaliser in the 65th with a left-footed shot capitalising on error of goalie Sunar. The glovesman made a feeble punch moving out of his position as the ball fell on Ruchal's path only for the forward to apply a powerful shot into an open net.
Nitin Thapa of Pokhara was declared the emerging player and Shrestha super player. Thapa was rewarded with Rs10,00 and Shrestha Rs25,000.
Lalitpur City FC, yet to test a single win, will take on Dhangadhi FC in their third match of the campaign on Thursday.
