Nepal on Wednesday announced a 15-member squad for the USA Tri-Series match of the ICC World Cup League 2 scheduled from June 6 to 16 in Texas, USA.
Kishor Mahato, Sunil Dhamal and Md Adil Ansari have secured place for the first time in Nepal's One-Day International squad of the Series that involves hosts USA and Oman apart from Nepal.
All three were the members of the national squad that played a three-match One-Day Series against Zimbabwe ‘A’ earlier this month. Medium pacer Mahato had impressed coach Pududu Dassanayake against Zimbabwe 'A' taking five wickets in the third One-Day game. Dhamala had last played a 50-over match for the country in 2017 against Kenya before making a comeback in the national fold against Zimbabwe 'A'. The 18-year-old Ansari debuted for the national side at a Tri-Nation T20I Series in March.
Nepal are scheduled to play two matches each against the US and Oman in Texas. They will begin the campaign taking on Oman on June 9, and the USA on June 11. They will vie against Oman on 14 June before taking on hosts the following day.
The League 2 featuring seven teams is the gateway for the 2023 World Cup. Each team will play 36 games at the end of the league cycle. The teams that finish in the top three will secure berths for the World Cup Qualifiers in Zimbabwe while the bottom four will compete in the World Cup Qualifiers playoff.
Nepal currently sit sixth in the event that comprises Oman, Scotland, United Arab Emirates, Namibia, USA and Papua New Guinea. Oman lead the standing with 40 points from 32 matches while Nepal are sixth with 12 points from as many matches.
