The Children’s Art Museum Nepal will be organising the second edition of the Hogwarts Express, an annual Harry Potter themed fundraising event for fans of all ages, on December 22 from 12pm to 7pm at the Godavari Alumni Association (GAA) hall in Thamel.
The appeal of Harry Potter is universal and cuts across all age groups, which is why the Children’s Art Museum (CAM) decided to theme its biggest fundraising event around the beloved boy wizard. The funds raised through events like the Hogwarts Express help CAM provide children with access to art education through their outreach campaigns and workshops.
“We have huge Harry Potter nerds who grew up reading and watching the series,” said Priyankana Bastola, Program Coordinator at CAM. “Harry Potter is such a classic thing for all ages. It is fantastical and creative, and there is so much to get out of it. It’s indulgent enough to make a great festival out of it.”
The Hogwarts Express will comprise of various paid and free games and activities, a number of which will allow participants to create their own wands, make potions out of glittery formulae, and also construct charms like bracelets.
Even though kids will probably be looking forward to the activities the most, everyone is encouraged to join in, said Bastola.
For adults who want to test themselves for the title of ‘the biggest Harry Potter fan,” there is also a Tri-Wizard Trivia Tournament, where teams will compete to answer questions based on the Harry Potter books and movies. The trivia competition will have rounds based on different mediums like audio and pictures. The winners receive a trophy and gift hampers from the sponsors.
“We already have 15 teams with three or four people each registered for the trivia so far,” said Bastola.
Already, fans of the series can be witnessed inquiring about the details on CAM’s Facebook page and with official ticket sellers. “Even some Nepali actors are sharing our posts on social media and people communicate with us frequently regarding the event,” said Bastola.
Tickets for the event are Rs 250 and are available at CAM Nepal, Flat Iron Grill at Hotel Ambassador, GAA Hall, Little Things, and The Local Project. The organisers suggest arriving at least an hour before the event concludes so activities can be enjoyed to the fullest.
Founded in 2013, the Children’s Art Museum Nepal has been providing a “safe space” for children and youth to freely express their creativity and educate them artistically.
