Starting this year, the Nepali National Convention, to be held in September in the US, will now be felicitating films and filmmakers with a new award ceremony, the Nempa Popular Film Award, the Nepal Motion Picture Association (Nempa) has announced.

Awards will be presented in 15 different categories, including the Nempa Lifetime Achievement Award. The event is being jointly organised by the Association of Nepalese in Mid-West America (ANMA), Nepalese Association in Southeast America (NASeA) and the Nepal Motion Picture Association. The award show will feature cultural performances and a panel discussion about the Nepali film industry.

“We hope that events like this will help promote the Nepali film industry while also honouring deserving artists,” Pradeep Kumar Udaya, chairperson of the Nepal Motion Picture Association, said.

The Nepali National Convention will take place from August 31 to September 2 in the US.
