Trailer for the upcoming sports drama Damaru ko Dandibiyo, which features actors Khagendra Lamichhane and Anup Baral, has hit the airwaves.

The film tells the story of Damaru (Khagendra Lamichhane) who returns to his village with an aim to revive the game of Dandi Biyo. “But his father, who was once a good player, opposes his move and wants him to concentrate on his career instead. Damaru then is left with no option but to defeat his father in a Dandi Biyo match if he wants to pursue his dream,” the film’s logline reads.

Written by Lamichhane, Damaru ko Dandibiyo is directed by Chhetan Gurung, in what will be his debut directorial. Prior to this, director Gurung was involved as a writer for films such as November Rain and Diary.  Speaking at the film’s announcement event, director Gurung said, “I have taken the film as a good project to use my experiences in the industry and to broaden my horizon. I am excited.”

The producers have said that the film will border around the social and sports drama genre, possibly for the first time in the recent Kollywood history. The film, shot around Lamjung, Manang, and Kathmandu, will release on May 4. Alongside Lamichhane and Baral, the film features actors Menuka Pradhan, Ankit Khadka, Aashant Sharma, Buddhi Tamang, Laxmi Bardewa, Mihri Thapa, and Namita Ghising, among others.
