According to Niraj Poudel, distribution chief at Gopi Krishna Movies, the company has bought the distribution rights for eight of Disney’s upcoming projects—namely, Black Panther; Avengers: Infinity War; A Wrinkle Time; Coco; Thor : Ragnarok; Star wars: The Last Jedi; and Ant Man and the Wasp. The films will be released over the course of the next two years.
This is the first time that Gopi Krishna Movies has made a long-term commitment to screen Hollywood movies. One of the biggest and oldest multiplexes in the Valley, Gopi Krishna is primarily popular for the screening of Kollywod and Bollywood films, with the occasional Hollywood flick thrown into the mix.
Prior to this, the distribution of Hollywood films was dominated by Apple ntertainment, an official agent of Sony Entertainment for Nepal. But now with Gopi Krishna Movies also entering the fray, cinema goers are set to benefit from the competition, as the move will increase the number of Hollywood movies being screened in the Capital.
The eight movie line-up unveiled by Gopi Krishna, all action/superhero genre, highlights how the genre has found a niche market among young, urban cinema goers in Nepal.
