An exhibit titled Beauty and the Beast is slated to be held at Nepal Art Council from Saturday. The art exhibit will feature works by the students of Pagoda Institute of Fine Arts, Lisa Gairhe and Kishor Jyoti. The exhibit is slated to be inaugurated by artists Madan Chitrakar and Roshan Pradhan.
The exhibition is based on the motif of individuality. “A person normally has a personality he shows to his circle of friends, family, and the outer world in general. And he has one that keeps to himself,” says Gairhe. The idea, according to Gairhe, is to present the sweeter side of a person under the tagline ‘Beauty’ and the captivated part as the ‘Beast’.
“We have tried to do something different than the typical landscapes paintings this time around. This is our attempt to recreate the classic old fable in our own way. The ‘Beast’ part, which I portray in my paintings, tries to convey the the wildnerness hiding behind the tamed part of a human soul that wants freedom.”
The exhibit, the duo’s fourth venture together, also features self portraits of the artists themselves.
The exhibit will be on everyday at 11 am to 6 pm from until August 23 at Nepal Art Council.
