Saying ‘I love Nepal’ is one thing, showing how you love Nepal is another. There aren’t many people who really love Nepal. It might sound sad, but it is the bitter truth. There aren’t many true patriots. Patriotism is nothing without action.
Yes, there are many people who raise voice on the social media when a bad news about the country surfaces. But roaring up on the social media is not activism, it is ‘slactivism’. It is not love, it is just following the crowd, and not missing out.
If just voicing our concerns saved a nation, Nepal would have developed long ago.
One doesn’t have to leave the life they are living to do something for the nation. One doesn’t even have to go to war and become a martyr. Small deeds are far better than big talks, so dream big and start small.
I realised this when I was compelled to listen to the radio, TVs and go through social media posts about foreign interference in our inner sovereignty. Knowing about it makes sure that I am aware about my country’s current situation but true civic responsibility would be to act on the knowledge.
What am I doing more than knowing? The easiest thing would be to express it on social media where it hardly shall get heard, and that’s it. These are all the glimpses of how our country is nearly disabled on the matter of sovereignty and self respect. When we listen to the speeches of our politicians we feel like we are one of the countries with maximum potential. But are we really?
We should first prove that our country is independent of any other nation. Let’s first analyse how we are spending every day and whether it is contributing to the nation’s overall development and welfare.
Let’s take little steps, let’s start where we stand.
