After making his Kollywood debut in 1988, Hamal has gone on to star in over three dozen movies; but this is the first time the actor will be moving behind the lenses.
“We have prepared a preliminary draft. The script writing is in its final stage. Once we detail the script, the production process will start,” Hamal said during an interview with entertainment website moviemandu.
“I am thinking about directing it myself, though the size of the budget and production procedures are yet to be finalised,” Hamal said.
Speaking about how he will handle the aesthetics and commericality, the actor, endearingly called the “Maha-Nayak”, said, “Obviously, once you invest some money into a film, there should be a return. The film we are planning to do will touch upon contemporary issues. It will be the reflection of values and emotions that come with this life, and to that we’ll try to add some amount of entertainment as well.”
Hamal added, “Along with the aspects of entertainment, if the film will also raise some social issue, it will be good.”
Hamal also said that the last Nepali film that he especially liked was Jatra, “for it is entertaining and also represents a certain Nepali values and emotions. It also raises some of the social issues prevalent in the day. I think that’s what a film should be like.”
Hamal, 53, one of the most acclaimed Nepali actors, last appeared in 2016’s sci-fi drama Bijuli Machine in which he appeared in a cameo. Prior to this, Hamal was featured in 2014’s gangster drama Mukhauta, directed by Arpan Thapa.
