Commemorating the ongoing Martyr’s Week, a poetry recital was held at Tinlal Park in Manthali, Ramechhap on Friday. The recital was organised at the Tinlal Park to honour three of Ramechhap’s ‘Lal’s—Gangalal Shrestha, Pushpalal Shrestha and Krishnalal Adhikari—after whom the park is named.
Gangalal Shrestha is one of the four martyrs of the democratic revolution against the Rana Regime, while Puspalal Shrestha—his youngest brother—was the founder of the Communist Party in Nepal and a stalwart of the communist ideology’s early days in the country. Litterateur Krishnalal Adhikari, lauded as a “literary martyr” in some quarters, makes up the triumvirate honoured at the Tinlalpark.
The poetry discussion where poets recited their poems and songs was attended by literary figures from Ramechhap, including Ramchandra Biyog, Suman Karmacharya, Peshal Acharya, Shikala Dungel, Sunita Dangol and more.
Speaking at the event, local social worker, Ram Prasad Devkota said, “I would like to thank all the literary figures for coming here to give their respect to the martyrs and would like to show special gratitude towards Ramesh Poudel for organising this discussion as well as preserving these statues.”
Poudel, who is an artist as well as poet, organised the discussion to bring light to the poor condition of the park and its three statues. Poudel and his team have been working on restoring the park in light of its decrepit state.
