Jazz veteran Watanabe to perform in Kathmandu
Sadao Watanabe, one of Japan’s leading jazz artists, is set to perform in the Capital to markthe 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relationship between Nepal and Japan.
Sadao Watanabe, one of Japan’s leading jazz artists, is set to perform in the Capital to mark
the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relationship between Nepal and Japan. The concert, organised by
the Embassy of Japan in Nepal, will be held at the Tribhuvan Army Officers’ Club in the Capital, starting October 22.
During the two-day music fiesta, which will close on Oct 23, Watanabe will be performing alongside his band—that comprises Akira Onozuka, on keys; Takashi Yofu, on the guitars; Koichi Osamu, on the bass; Masaharu Ishikawa, on
drums; and N’diasse Niang, on percussions.
Watanabe, 83, has a whopping total of 74 jazz albums to his credit; 13 of which have reached to the top 50 on the Billboard charts.
Over his illustrious career
ranging over six decades, Watanabe has collaborated with prominent
jazz artists, such as Charlie Mariano, Cyrus Chestnut and Michael Brecker, among others. Watanabe is also associated with Boss nova, a genre that first originated in Brazil in the 1960’s.
